Cigarettes and Testosterone Levels

Cigarettes and Testosterone Levels

For many years, tobacco has been silently killing people yet has been widely accepted. Smoking cigarettes is a drug of choice, but it can have serious health consequences.

Smoking cigarettes does not affect testosterone serum levels. Numerous studies can back up this claim.

What do the scientists say about testosterone and smoking?

In one study, the levels of testosterone in smokers and nonsmokers were compared. The study found that the average testosterone level of the participants was almost the same. It is likely, therefore, that smoking will not affect your testosterone level.

Similar research was conducted with heavy smokers who were chain smokers and those who weren't. Both groups showed similar levels of serum androgen and testosterone.

A second study found something more shocking when it studied men who quit smoking. In the initial months after withdrawal, testosterone levels increased slightly.

After a year, testosterone levels returned to their previous level. Some men actually experienced a significant drop in T levels.

Smoking can cause hormonal changes

Men with higher testosterone levels are more likely to engage in potentially hazardous activities such as drinking alcohol, smoking and gambling.

Many researchers believed that men who smoke had higher testosterone levels which were responsible for the risky activities they engage in. Men with higher testosterone levels are more likely to smoke than men with lower T.

More research suggests that smoking can quickly metabolize the testosterone. This also implies that smoking increases the efficiency of testosterone metabolism within the liver.

It's hard to understand how smoking could help your body. What is odd is that this metabolizing process does not affect the levels of testosterone in smokers' serum.

Many studies have been conducted to support the fact that smoking cigarettes does not harm T-levels.

However, smoking can reduce zinc levels. Zinc is a mineral that the body uses to make testosterone. This may suggest that smoking and a poor eating pattern can lead to a zinc shortage, which could cause low testosterone.

Smoking and other health issues

Smoking does not affect testosterone levels, as we have seen in a number of studies. That said, it's not completely off the hook. Other health problems can be caused by smoking, including:

  • The risk of cancer spreading to other body parts, such as the bladder, mouth, stomach, bowel and liver is increased when you smoke.
  • This also causes damage to your blood vessels and heart, increasing the chances of stroke, heart attack, and heart disease.
  • Pneumonia
  • Asthma, respiratory infections and other diseases
  • Sexual dysfunction, or reduced sexual performance
  • Reduces fertility

Conclusion

It is not wise to continue smoking if you believe it will not affect your testosterone level. You won't maintain your T levels if you are not in good health.

Quitting smoking is the best thing that you can do to improve your health and well-being. We know that it is difficult to quit smoking, but the health benefits outweigh any difficulties. You can try the following to stop smoking:

  • Nicotine Replacement Therapy
  • Avoiding Triggers
  • Chew gum
  • Move your body
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Support online
  • Remember why you are stopping.

Military Muscle is a great way to boost your T.

Studies may show that the T levels of men who smoke are not that different from those that do not... But alongside smoking regularly, bad habits such as excessive alcohol consumption and poor food choices can begin to emerge.

We'd recommend that you cut back, or even stop smoking altogether. You can keep track of your levels and your overall health. Have you considered how Military Muscle could help if you suspect something is affecting your testosterone (and, therefore, your mood, performance and libido)?
